I found a faded photograph from years ago tucked inside an old journal this morning. Looking at that young boy, I realized how far we’ve traveled together. We tend to think we leave our younger selves behind as time moves forward, but we don’t. The child who was easily amazed, the young adult who made foolish mistakes, the person who had to pick up the pieces and start over—they are all still living inside us. Every decision we make today is made in conversation with every age we’ve ever been. When you stop to look back, which version of yourself are you still carrying with you?
